Percussion Experience

After the success of their percussion concert last year, Croatian National Theatre Ivan pl. Zajc Rijeka had no other choice than to repeat this wonderful experience.

On 16 June 2023, the second edition of the percussion concert in the cycle of chamber concerts was held in Rijeka, Croatia. The concert was divided into two parts: in the first part, percussion music was performed, in collaboration with the SiNKOP percussion ensemble of the Ivan Matetić Ronjgov Music School under the direction of Anita Primorac. The second part of the concert showed the possibilities of percussion chamber music with other instruments, this time in collaboration with the ReVibrant ensemble (violin, cello and percussion), and the percussion section of the Rijeka Symphony Orchestra with Antonio Ceravolo and Pedro Rosenthal Campuzano.

Two compositions written by main percussionist Pedro Rosenthal Campuzano and composer Anita Primorac had their world premieres, and the program also included many works by modern and contemporary composers that had never performed in Croatia before.

During this concert, tradition was combined with modernity in a duo of traditional Balkan bass and violin. Modern ways of making music were explored with loop pedals, samples and electronics.

"The concept of the concert is a mix of many ideas like the promotion of music among young people, with the collaboration of the SiNKOPA ensemble; to give visibility to contemporary music; or showing the possibilities of the percussion as a soloist instrument." Pedro Rosenthal Campuzano, percussionist.
